The Punjab Dhee Rani Program
a remarkable initiative of collective marriages aimed at supporting deserving families who could not afford the high costs of marriage arrangements.
Dhee Rani is a specific word used for daughters in Punjabi culture.
On February 6, 2025, I was honored to be invited by the District Government to attend the “Punjab Dhee Rani Program” an initiative by Chief Minister Punjab Mrs. Maryam Nawaz Sharif to support deserving families. The Punjab Dhee Rani program was a wonderful initiative of the Chief Minister of Punjab Mrs. Mariam Nawaz Sharif for deserving families who are unable to afford the marriage expenses of their daughters. The couples applied online and were selected on merit. The government of Punjab supported the newly married couple with cash prizes and other facilities.
Launched on a large scale by the Chief Minister of Punjab Mrs. Mariam Nawaz Sharif, this program provided much-needed financial assistance and resources to ease the burden on poor parents. By facilitating weddings for underprivileged families, the initiative not only upheld social welfare but also promoted dignity and relief for those struggling with economic hardships. This compassionate effort significantly contributed to social stability and reinforced the government’s commitment to uplifting marginalized communities.
Outside the Eden marquee, people in colorful costumes were enjoying heartily. The orchestra played beautiful tunes. Traditional music and cultural dance Bhangra made the atmosphere more memorable. I arrived at Eden Garden Banquet near Ojala Pul, Wazirabad, and witnessed the hall being filled with people celebrating the collective marriage ceremony. Many of the bride and groom were busy in capturing their precious movements. The member of their families was also there to witness the momentous event.
Special sitting organized for newly married couples. They were chatting with one another.
It was a very special event for everyone. Parents appreciated Chief Minister Mrs. Mariam Nawaz Sharif for initiating this program for deserving people.
I met several officials, and politicians and captured memorable pictures as well.
I mentioned the significance of inclusive welfare programs like the Punjab Dhee Rani Program and appreciated the government’s efforts in supporting underprivileged families.
Moreover, the issuance of Minority Cards for deserving families plays a crucial role in ensuring social and economic support for marginalized communities. These steps reflect a commitment to equality and justice, helping to uplift religious minorities by granting them access to essential resources and opportunities. I emphasized the importance of promoting harmony and equal opportunities for all, regardless of religious or social background. Including Christian couples in this program is a commendable step towards fostering interfaith unity and demonstrating that social welfare should transcend all barriers. May these couples be blessed with love, prosperity, and a peaceful future, and may such initiatives continue to bring hope to marginalized communities across Pakistan.

This noble program facilitated the marriages of 65 Muslim and 2 Christian couples, reflecting the government’s commitment to social welfare and inclusivity. The event was well-organized, bringing together various stakeholders, community leaders, and well-wishers to celebrate the union of these couples with dignity and joy. It was a heartwarming sight to witness families receiving the support they needed to begin their new journey, reinforcing the values of compassion, unity, and collective responsibility.
